'The Night Circus' Getting the Movie Treatment

Movie and TV rights to The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern have been snatched by Summit Entertainment.  The Night Circus is a New York Times Bestseller and Moira Buffini (Jane Eyre) will be writing the script for this popular novel about a fantastical circus and two young illusionists who are pitted against one another in a fierce contest that will span their lives.

David Heyman (Harry Potter) and Jeff Clifford are on board to produce this adaptation.

About The Night Circus (from Goodreads):
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.
True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

  1. I've actually really been wanting to read this one. Now that it's optioned for a movie I'll have to be a bit quicker about it. Im curious to see how they interpret it for the big screen.

    1. I'm also curious. I've heard a lot of good things about this book in the short while it's been out; it could be kind of cool to see it on screen.

  6. Everyone around me says nothing but good things about this book, including my grandmother (she's a very tough critic.) And I think that David Heyman is the perfect choice for producer, what with his excellent work on Harry Potter.

  7. I've read it a few weeks ago and all I could think about was "This will look fantastic on the big screen!" So, to say I can't wait is an understatement :) I knew Summit got the rights, but it's cool to finally get some names, thank you!
